In Sweden today there are about 300 hostels connected to the Swedish touring club. You can find them in trains, in lighthouses, on ships, apartment houses and in other unusual houses. Or like our house an old forest officers house.
Asgard was built in the 1920s as a forest officers house for Domanverket and worked like that til 1970s. After that different families have lived in the house before it became an office for Lanstyrelsens Fjallforvaltning, and in 1993 became a hostel.
My name is Karin and i have been running this hostel for 9 years, with some help from my boyfriend Mats and our children Mikkel and Lovisa. Family and friends have also assisted me when i needed help.
We are open all the year round but we try to get some time off around Christmas.
A white christmas in Jokkmokk
This year we stay open for both Christmas and New year. So you are most welcome to come to Jokkmokk then. Experience lots of snow, polar light in the sky, dog sledding in the forests, skiing in the surroundings, julotta on Christmas day when we go to church eary in the morning, very early. Or rent our Swedish traditional vehicle, the Spark. A wodden "chair" on metal skis. And you drive it with manpower..... lots of fun.

Private accomodation during the Winter market 2010
From this year we also distribute private rooms in Jokkmokk and in the villages around Jokkmokk. Lots of people open up their homes during this time to guests from around the world. Some stay at home and serve their guests with breakfast and others take their family and move in with mum and dad or other relatives or friends.
