In Jokkmokk municipality there are 4 sami villages, Sirkas, Jåkkåkaska, Tuorpon and Serri forest sami village. A sami village are not a geographical location but more of a group of sami people living in a given area.

In Sweden, there are sami villages from Idre sami village in the south to Könkämä sami village in the north. Between Luleälv at Saltoluokta in north and south of Kvikkjokk, you find the three sami villages Sirkas, Jåkkåkaska and Tuorpons areas.

Summer time



Village area goes from summer pastures in the west of the mountains, and winter pastures to the east down in the woods. Some sami villages even take their reindeers to the islands in the archipelago at Luleå for the winter pastures.

In Padjelanta National Park members of Sirkas, Jåkkåkaska and Tuorpon sami villages manages the cottages in the park. In Staloluokta the members of Tuorpon Sami village lives. In Arasluokta members from Jåkkåkaska Sami village lives and in Vaisaluokta and Ännonjalme at Akka lives the members from Sirkas Sami village.

At Parka south of Kvikkjokk has Tuorpon Sami village a place which is used for Autumn slaughter and along the way to Kvikkjokk has Jåkkåkaska Sami village a place, which is used to autumn slaughter.
