What to do in Jokkmokk

Harsprånget

In our community there are many tracks from the past. For example, in Vuollerim and Porjus. Furthermore, there is Ájtte, Swedish alpine and Sami museum.

Missing communities

In the beginning of 1900s Sweden had realised that electricity could come from hydroelectric dams. So for a few decades dams were built as well as villiges. People moved to new locations and after a few years when the dams were completed the villages vanished and people moved on to the next dam. You can find several such places around Jokkmokk, in which today we can only imagine that it used to live several thousand of people there. In some of this places they have cut down bushes and trees to highlight how the community looked like.

Messaure society, society was built around 1957 and remained until 1980, now it's gone and there are only signs to tell you what it looked like.
